China Visa Requirements

  • If you have your visa to China issued before March 28, 2020, and it is still valid as well as your passport, you may use it to enter China
  • Chinese Embassy and consulates in Canada oblige all visa applicants ages 14 to 70 (inclusive) to submit fingerprints at their facilities in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Calgary, and Vancouver.

     


    Required documents:


    Basic Documents:
    - Actual valid passport must be submitted at the time of fingerprinting. (Valid at least for 8 months from the date of submission for visa & min. 2 empty pages)
    Note: Clients submitting to our Vancouver office must present their old passport in original if the current one has issue date after Jan. 01, 2015.

    - One colour photo. (Photo facility is available on-site - TORONTO, MARKHAM & VANCOUVER). Please note that photos from photo booths or home-shot photos are not acceptable.  No scarves, headwear, or any kind of jewelry and earrings are allowed.   If you are not visiting our office and prefer to courier your documents you must have your photos done in accordance with the following specifications: Size: 48x33 mm; the photo must be taken within 6 months, with full face, front view, against a white background and has a timestamp with the address of photo studio at the back (Full China visa photo requirements are available here).


    - HAND FILLED and signed CHINA VISA APPLICATION FORM (https://www.visacenter.ca/getpdf/c/china_visa_application.pdf)(Note: When filling out the form put your Driver's License number or Citizenship card number, or Health card number in item 1.6B.)



    - Non-Canadian applicants must provide the original of the document confirming their current resident status in Canada (PR Card, Landed Document, Work Permit). There is no expedited visa processing for non-Canadian passport holders.
    - In case the name on the national passport has a different spelling than on the resident document, an official Name Change Certificate is required.

    - Former Chinese & Hong Kong citizens, as well as all those born in China & Hong Kong are required to provide:
    Photocopy of previous Chinese passports or previous Chinese visas (applicable to foreign citizens who were Chinese citizens and have obtained foreign citizenship). If you are applying for a Chinese visa for the first time, you should provide your previous Chinese passport held and a photocopy of its data page. If you have obtained Chinese visas before and want to apply for a Chinese visa with a renewed foreign passport that does not contain any Chinese visa, you should present the photocopy of the previous passport's data page and the photo page if it is separate, as well as the previous Chinese visa page. (If your name on the current passport differs from that on the previous one, you must provide an official document of the name change.)
    NOTE: Persons WITH DUAL citizenship, ONE of which IS Canadian, must apply WITH their Canadian passports only. Applicants WITH other THAN Canadian passports must provide the ORIGINAL of document confirming their current resident STATUS IN Canada (PR Card, Landed Document, WORK Permit). 

    Toronto Specific requirements: Applicants of Chinese descent - 1)Those who have been born in Canada must present: a) Original long-form birth certificate. b) Both parents' passports and citizenship cards (originals) to prove their nationality in the year the applicant has been born. 2)Those who have been born in China must present a) an Original birth certificate. b) Both parents' passport and citizenship card (originals) to prove their nationality in the year the applicant has been born or the applicant's PR card or landed documents(originals)

    Vancouver Specific requirements: Applicants with passports from India and African countries (except South Africa) applying in Vancouver require to present bank statements.


    Additional documents are required for different visa types - SEE BELOW:

  • L VISA - TOURIST VISA - Issued to those who are going to travel to China for tourism or visit friends and classmates, who are not close family members.
    Required additional documents:

    Flight and hotel reservation (if you do not have them, get it HERE - https://www.flightbookingforvisa.com). For cruise passengers - cruise reservation. In other cases: an invitation letter issued by a relevant entity or individual in China.The invitation letter should contain:
    (1) Information on the applicant (full name, gender, date of birth, etc.)
    (2) Information on the planned visit (arrival and departure dates, place(s) to be visited, etc.)
    (3) Information on the inviting entity or individual (name, contact telephone number, address, official stamp, signature of the legal representative or the inviting individual, Chinese ID copy (front and back) of the inviting individual.
  • Q1 VISA -FAMILY VISA - Issued to those who are family members of Chinese citizens or of foreigners with permanent residence status in China and intend to go to China for a long-term family reunion, or to those who intend to go to China for the purposes of foster care (intended duration of stay in China exceeding 180 days).
    "Family members" refers to spouses, parents, sons, daughters, spouses of sons or daughters, brothers, sisters, grandparents, grandsons, granddaughters and parents-in-law.
    Required additional documents:
    For family reunion, the following documents are required:
    (1) An invitation letter issued by a Chinese citizen or a foreign citizen with a Chinese permanent residence permit who lives in China. The invitation letter should contain:
    a) Information on the applicant (full name, gender, date of birth, etc.)
    b) Information on the visit ( purpose of visit, intended arrival date, place(s) of intended residence, intended duration of residence, number of intended entries into China, arrival and departure dates, relations between the applicant and the inviting entity or individual, financial source for expenditures)
    c) Information on the inviting individual (name, contact telephone number, address, official stamp, signature of legal representative or the inviting individual, etc.)

    (2) Photocopy of Chinese ID of the inviting individual or foreign passport and permanent residence permit.
    (3) Original and photocopy of certification (marriage certificate, birth certificate, certification of kinship issued by Public Security Bureau or notarized certification of kinship) showing the relationship of family members between applicant and inviting individual.
    "Family members" refers to spouses, parents, sons, daughters, spouses of sons or daughters, brothers, sisters, grandparents, grandsons, granddaughters and parents-in-law.
    For foster care, the following documents are required:
    (1)Foster entrustment notarization issued by Chinese Embassies/Consulates General in foreign countries or Foster Care Power of Attorney notarized and authenticated in the country of residence or in China
    (2)Original and photocopy of the consignor's passport(s), as well as the original and photocopy of certification (marriage certificate, birth certificate, certification of kinship issued by Public Security Bureau or notarized certification of kinship) notarized and authenticated certification showing the relationship between parents or guardians and children.
    (3) A letter of consent on foster care issued by the trustee living in China who has agreed to provide foster care services and a photocopy of the ID of the trustee.
    (4) A photocopy of the certificate indicating the permanent residence status abroad of the parent(s) when the child was born, provided that either or both parents of the child are Chinese citizens.
    Holders of Q1 Visa shall, within 30 days from the date of their entry, apply to the exit/entry administrations of public security organs under local people's governments at or above the county level in the proposed places of residence for foreigners' residence permits.

    Q2 VISA - FAMILY VISA - Issued to those who intend to visit relatives who are Chinese citizens residing in China or foreigners with permanent residence status in China; the intended duration of stay is limited to no more than 180 days.
    Required additional documents:
    (1) An invitation letter issued by a Chinese citizen or a foreign citizen with a Chinese permanent residence permit who lives in China. The invitation letter should contain:
    a) Information on the applicant (full name, gender, date of birth, etc.)
    b) Information on the visit (purpose of visit, number of intended entries into China, arrival and departure dates, place(s) to be visited, relations between the applicant and the inviting individual, financial source for expenditures)
    c) Information on the inviting individual (name, contact number, address, signature etc.)

    (2) Photocopy of Chinese ID or foreign passport and permanent residence permit of the inviting individual.
  • G VISA - TRANSIT VISA - Issued to those who are going to transit through China en route to a third country (or region).
    Required additional documents:
    An onward air (train or ship) ticket with confirmed date and seat to the destination country or region.

China Business Visa Requirements (additionally to the requirements above)

  • F VISA - EXCHANGES, VISITS, STUDY TOURS AND OTHER ACTIVITY VISA - Issued to those who are invited to China for non-profit cultural and academic exchanges, conference attendance, study tours, compete in non-commercial games and other activities.

    Required additional documents:
    An invitation letter issued by a relevant entity or individual in China. The invitation should contain: (1) Information on the applicant (full name, gender, date of birth, etc.) (2) Information on the planned visit (arrival and departure dates, place(s) to be visited, etc.) (3) Information on the inviting entity or individual (name, contact telephone number, address, official stamp, signature of the legal representative or the inviting individual).

    M VISA - COMMERCE AND TRADE VISA - Issued to those who are invited to China for commercial and trade activities (visiting clients, suppliers, visiting company branch or headquarters, handle corporate related business).
    Required additional documents:
    (1) Documents on the commercial activity issued by a trade partner in China, or trade fair invitation or other invitation letters issued by relevant entity or individual. The invitation letter should contain:
    a) Information on the applicant (full name, gender, date of birth, etc.).
    b) Information on the planned visit (purpose of visit, number of intended entries into China,  arrival and departure dates, place(s) to be visited, relations between the applicant and the inviting entity or individual, financial source for expenditures).
    c) Information on the inviting entity or individual (name, contact telephone number, address, official stamp, signature of the legal representative or the inviting individual).
    To qualify for Multiple Entry Business visa applicant must have completed two entries into China within the last 24 months or have previously expired multiple entry visa in last 12 months and invitation letter should explicitly state that multiple visa is required.

  • Z VISA - WORK VISA - Issued to those who intend to work in China (those taking up a post or employment, or giving commercial performances in China)
    Required additional documents:
    One of the following documents:
    (1) Foreigners Employment Permit of the People's Republic of China issued by Chinese government authorities for Human Resources and Social Security, as well as Invitation Letter of Duly Authorized Entity or Confirmation Letter of Invitation issued by relevant Chinese entities.
    (2) Permit for Foreign Experts Working in China issued by the State Bureau of Foreign Experts as well as Invitation Letter of Duly Authorized Entity or Confirmation Letter of Invitation issued by relevant Chinese entities.
    (3) Registration Certificate of Resident Representative Offices of enterprises of foreign countries(regions) issued by Chinese authorities of industrial and commercial administration, as well as Invitation Letter of Duly Authorized Entity or Confirmation Letter of Invitation issued by relevant Chinese entities as well as Invitation Letter of Duly Authorized Entity or Confirmation Letter of Invitation issued by relevant Chinese entities.
    (4) An approval document for commercial performances issued by the Chinese government authorities for cultural affairs or Invitation Letter of Duly Authorized Entity or Confirmation Letter of Invitation issued by relevant Foreign Affairs Office of provincial governments of China.
    (5)Letter of Invitation to Foreigners for Offshore Petroleum Operations in China issued by China National Offshore Oil Corporation;
    Holders of Z Visa shall, within 30 days from the date of their entry, apply to the exit/entry administrations of public security organs under local people's governments at or above the county level in the proposed places of residence for foreigners' residence permits.
  • For a single, double or multiple entry business (F) visa, an invitation letter on the letter-head or an invitation card from the relevant Chinese government department, or local government (county or town level and above), or Chinese companies, or business enterprises, or government institutions is required. Note, that email correspondence is not considered as invitation.
